What is Sadaqah?

What is Sadaqah and what are its types?

In the sixth century, the world’s second largest religion, Islam, according to its spreading and world’s noblest religion according to its teaching, was revealed on the Prophet PBUH. The nobility and profundity of that religion influenced not only its disciples but the ones who did not believe on it. Well knowingly, every religion has its teachings, Islam had too. It was revealed with the orders of penta pillars of prayers in which Zakat was one of them.

Zakat as well as Sadaqah are the financial prayers describes charitable act towards the people lower in position in that context. Zakat is whatever financial prayer imposes on a capable person whoever can pay it. But Sadqah is one not imposed on people but authority has been given to man, he can be more generous by choice. Of course, prayers are for to please God but along with it, they are also the sources of cleanliness and purification of man’s soul. In the similar fashion, Sadaqah, a by choice generosity, is the source of one’s wealth.

Sadaqah may, not necessarily, be an act of money, whatever possible effort that one can perform for others is Sadaqah. For example, true smile, free coaching, facilities proving others for free, a helping hand, etc are considered as willing Ibadahs.

In the year of revelation, people with extra wealth were forced to pay their Zakat to the people living their life hand to mouth. Beyond this act, some too sincere disciples of Islam and Prophet PBUH expressed their wish to be more open- handed. Those noble people were given the choice to give their ample amount to whom living their life beggarly. Then this prayer was given the status of out doer.

In comparison to Zakat, Sadaqah is one with more wide range of approachability. In Zakat, you are bound to pay just money or few other things in exchange of money. In other words, you can say it is a pocket-prayer. On the other hand, Sadaqah is every sensational positive deed having different domains, towards others with the pure intentions to please God and nothing else.

Types of Sadaqahs

Financial expenditure is classified into two types, one is Sadqah Wajibah, and other is Sadqaah Nafilah. Sadaqah Wajibah , as it is named, determines the compensation of missing any obligatory worship i.e.  the missing of a Salah or Fasting or any other unintentional sin due to considerable reasons.

Sadqah Nafilah is also the act of expressing voluntary in the same context of its name. It is further classified into different types, Sadqah Jariyah and Sadqah Lillah. Enthusiastic act, whether it may be the digging of a well or deflecting of a stone from a way, putting someone to rights, or providing a full meal to hunger etc. Every endeavor for others beyond the expectations of reward which you do by your own abilities is Sadqah Jariyah and if it is for the sake of Allah with zero announcements and high secrecy then it would be considered in the list of lillahi worships.

So, the thing is whoever will use his authorities of mentality and physicality in the name of Allah will be rewarded by mere Allah but none of the others. As, Prophet PBUH said,

“Deeds are according to the intention.”

If one acted kindly to get the name in society, he will be rewarded on the basis of his willing, and if he prayed for Allah he will be rewarded by Allah’s mercy that is incomparable.

Sadqah by your tongue, in the context of sophisticated talks and sincere advices, by your hand, in the context of facilitating others or by your mentation, in the context of guiding someone rightly are the high levels of morality. So, the teachings and orders of Islam are imposed to man just due to high morality intentions. And we all know very well, morality is the actual interpretation of nobility.
